An autocratic government has a single ruler with unlimited power. The people in such a country have no ability to participate in the selection of the ruler or the creation of laws. One benefit of this type of government is that decisions for a country can be made quickly. However, the needs of the people may be ignored or unheard. The leader may make poor or selfish decisions that work against the well-being of the people. Examples of this type of government can be found in countries where rule is by a dictator or king with absolute power. The ancient Inca of South America had this type of government. Their ruler had absolute power over everyone in his empire.
